Pottery Work from First Firing at Biseiji-Gama (Marugama Kiln )
[Photos taken on May 10, 2003]

Ceramics were fired for the first time at "Biseiji-Gama" (Marugama Kiln) in the Chukyo
University Toyota campus in January, 2003. Since the work of potteries with a great deal
of personality, which were pulled out from the kiln, was exhibited at the gallery of the second
floor of Bizan Ceramic Art Classroom in May 9 to 11 , 2003, I introduce a part.
The work introduced here are mainly the one produced by the method of "Yakijime" (firing
without glazing) or with "Haikaburi" (clay-formed body covered with burned ash).

"Yakijime" is a firing method which fires a formed china clay without applying
a glazing agent in order to vaporize water, to harden it for bearing practical use and to
take out a touch of the formed body as it is.

《ordinary forming 〜firing》
forming of final mixture of china clay and minerals→natural dry→biscuit firing
(about800℃)→applying a glazing agent→firing (about 1300℃)→completion

"Haikaburi" (clay-formed body covered with burend ash) is the phenomenon
in which the ashes of the firewood which has become like a fired-floor move to
the formed body put on the floor near the opening for throwing firewoods in.
