日本最大のやきものである六角陶碑の内部が1867年以来、初めて一般公開された。
以下に瀬戸市の黄色の一枚の説明書を参考に六角陶碑を英文で説明:
The inside of Japan Biggest Firing Work, Hexagonal Pottery Monument has been
made public for the first time since the foundation in 1867.
The Monument is explained in English as follows by referring partially to Seto City
yellow circular note in Japanese language

<Explanation>

When removing the canopy, many pebbles are found inside the monument. The part
of letter of the Lotus Sutra are written on the pebbles (See the photos below).

AA 建立の趣旨Purpose of manufacture
瀬戸市に伝承された陶祖「藤四朗」(注1)の陶業の功績を称えるために建立。
To honor the pottery achievement by pottery founder "Toshiro" <See Note 1>
who is mythological figure in Seto City.

  Designated as Seto City Cultural Tangible Asset No.1 in year of 1974.

The monument includes the base(@AB) and Six side faces(C) as follows:

@1st part of the monument base consisits of:
side plates consisting of 6 pottery plates (L 1.1mx H 0.5m; coated with Shino
glaze without letter), and
the cover of the side wall with Shino glaze-coated trapezoidal pottery plates.

AThe side plates of 2nd part of the base consists of:
6 Shino-glazed pottery plates (L 0.85m x H 0.45m/plate) with characters incised

B3rd part of the base is hexagonal platform and consists of:
the side surface with peony and foo dog being raised, and
the back with the roles and names of the people engaged in the manufacture
being incised.

CSix side faces (L 2.1m x H 0.6m/side) without glazing on which sides where
"Toshiro" came from is incised.

Above the six sides, decorations with L 0.32m x H 0.6m/decoration are mounted.
Descending Japanese wisteria is raised on the front, phoenix on the right and
left sides, armorial bearing on the back.
The surface is glazed with Shino, the raised parts are with Nezumi Shino.
The canopy of roof-shape is devided to two parts and glazed with Nezumi Shino.
Decoration of baluster finial is placed on the center of the canopy.

注1 当時、瀬戸には多くの名陶工がおり、名陶工を「藤四朗」と呼んだ、と言われている。
例えば、飛騨高山にはたくさんの名工がおり、名工を「左甚五郎」と呼んだ。
Note 1 Mr. Toshiro Kato visited China (called ' So' at that time) to study pottery
manufacturing technique and pottery business. After coming back Japan, he found
china clay with good quality at Seto, and then made a kiln there. He is said to have
built the foundation of development of Seto pottery business.
"Mr. Toshiro Kato" is allegedly legendary master craftsman in Seto pottery industry.
There were many master craftsmen in Seto at that time, and a person named
Mr. Toshiro Kato was used to represent such master craftsmen.
