(Note)
1 The mausoleum of 'Genkei-ko' (another name for Mr. Yoshinao Tokugawa) has been
designated as national treasure in 1937 and then important cultural assets due to
modification of system or institution. Genkei-ko died at the premises of domain of
Owari in Edo (namded Tokyo at present) on May 7, 1650. In accordance with his will
the dead was buried reverently at the top of mountain where Jokoji Temple has been
standing. Tombstone was put in 1651 and an incense burning hall in front of the
mausoleum, Tsukijibei fence and gate were put in 1652.
Stone monuments of 9 warriors who followed their master to the grave are arranged
in good order across Tsukijibei fence at east of the paved approach.
Main temple was designed by Mr. Chin Gen Pin (naturalized Japanese from China) and
the design of each building and the layout are worthwhile for noting as conspicuous
architecture in early Edo era.
