The 20th Visit
to Kilns at Akazu area - Parents' Home of Kilns (Photos taken on May 12 & 13, 2007) |
An event, "The 20th Visit to Kilns at Akazu
area" was held at Akazu area in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan for two days of May 12 and 13, 2007. 41 potteries, 4 wholesalers, 1 gallery(See Note 1), 1 glass atelier and 4 eating houses participate in the event. Free excursion bus "Setoranze" run one or two in an hour at a traffic circle of a building, "Parti Seto" adjacent to "Owariseto-eki" station (Meitetsu private railway line) . The first bus starts at 9:00 am there. Even if visitors come by train, they do not worry about transportation to enjoy the .event. We went to "Akazuyaki-kaikan" museum where works by ceramic artists in Akazu area are always exhibited, and then to "KASMI" near the museum on May 12, 2007. Next day, we visited five potteries to get their confirmation on publishing on my web page and appreciate their works. We enjoyed the beauty of pottery table coordinate works at "Akazuyaki-kaikan" museum. The museum exhibits table coordinate works in the events every year. There were slightly fewer exhibits this time than usual. At the five potteries, we saw works which can seldom be seen usually in the manufacture spots, warehouses, etc., and talked to"Akazuyaki-ware" traditional craftsmen about their works, etc. It was a pleasant time to be able to learn various things. At cafe-gallery of Seizangama pottery, I shared with my wife "Homemade "Inari-zushi (See Note 4) and Sushi roll", "Homemade apple pie", hot coffee and iced coffee. Since the vessel was very wonderful, the visitor entered continually. We went to "Haseyama-Kannondo" temple situated almost just in front of "Gensuigama" pottery for the first time. The temple has two big images carved in wood at both side of the deva gate. The images are "Nioh" (or "guardians of the temple"). We passed through the gate, went up the stairs whose angle of gradient is about 60 degrees, and reached Hondo(or main hall). Since the Hondo becomes very old, and its roofing tile is damaged, it seems that restoration is required. 【Note】 1 1 gallery The building which was a restaurant "seven GUREIZU" till 2006 is used as a gallery "KASMI" for certain reasons 2 A series of ceramic work by Mr. Teppei Terada The ceramic works were formed with clay of Canada and fired in Canada. Then the fired works were brought into Japan for painting with gold partially. A private exhibition for the completed ceramic works was held in Japan and in London. 3 "Sanpouen-gama" pottery A buckwheat-noodle restaurant, "Genju" is located near an intersection, "Anada-cho" in Seto City and adheres to delicious soba-noodles with one hundred percent.buckwheat and to vessels for the noodles. "Genju" seems to use ceramics produced at "Sanpouen-gama" pottery. 4 Inari-zushi "Inari-zushi" is also called "Age-zushi" in Japanese. This is "fried bean-curd stuffed with boiled rice". |
