Early
Spring at Iwayado |
Iwayado will be the spot which can be enjoyed throughout the year except winter. Cherry blossoms in spring, .natural pool made by damming the flow of Torihara River in summer and tinted autumnal leaves in autumn. The Tokai natural sidewalk passes inside this national park. From here, you can enjoy the hike to Mt. Sanage via Unkouji Temple southeast-ward, and the hike to Joukouji Temple northwest-ward in accordance with each one's walking ability. Iwayado and Joukouji are called mecca for cherry blossoms in spring and tinted autumnal leaves in autumn in Seto City. The origin of Iwayado (quoted from a stone monument in front of small cave-like temple made of rocks <See photo 4>): A great priest Gyoki came here to live in a hermitage, and sculptured three bodies of the Buddhist image in this cave in 725. This is the sacred place where he prayed for recovery from illness of Emperor Shomu at the time. By placing the Healing Buddha as the principal image, Iwaya-yama Healing Buddha Temple (Iwaya-yama Yakushi-Dou) have been built and provided with various small temples , and attracting religious belief. It is said that birds also offered the wooden fruit in front of the precious article., and the place name, Torihara ("Tori" means bird and "Hara" means field) may come from such offering. ★Iwaya-yama Yakushi-Dou ( Cave hall hollowed from a natural rock for the Healing (Medicine) Buddha is called Iwayado for short. ★Wonder working to relieve or protect against disease of eye and ear ★This is the inner shrine (the holy of holies) of Jyogenj Temple (Photo 6). ★Large scale festival is hold solemnly at Jyogenji Temple on last Sunday of Nov.. |
I walked up the riverside about 200m along Torihara River from the entrance of Iwayado Park. (Photo 1and 2), crossed a bridge to walk down the opposite reverside (Photo 3), went to Iwayado made of rocks and Gyoumyougataki Waterfall which is located about 10 m to the north of it (Photo4 and 5), visited Jyogenji Temple (Photo 6), and returned to parking lot. Parking lot: Only in season (I presume), the parking lots in northern part of Torihara River are nearer to the entrance of Iwayado, and charged (\500). The ones in the southern part are about 100 m far, and free (about 70 cars can be parked at 4 free lots). So, free parking lots are recommendable. |
