1 Parking lot <capacity about 20 cars> This parking lot is located at Shiroyama Park which is start-point (or end- point) and is not well known by tourists. So this is a rare free parking lot. At the center of this park, lies a statue of Mr. Nagachika Kanamori who came to this country called Hida with 33,000 koku of rice in 1586 as the lord. 2 About ten temples and shrines are located in a range of about 1km north of Higashiyama promenades along a prefectural road No. 462 starting at Seidenji temple. Although I wanted to take a walk in order to know the reason, I decided to set aside that walk for a next travel. 3 The ruin of main enclosure is located at the summit of the mountain with an altitude of 686m. It takes about 10 minutes on foot from the Shiroyama park to the ruin of main enclosure. It is said that this castle was not the one supposing wars. However, judging from difficult access to a main enclosure, and the location which can overlook north, south, east and west, I presume that it excels as a castle for strategy planning as well as for defense. 4 There is an bronze statue of Hirose lieutenant colonel who played an active part in the Russo-Japanese War iat a lieutenant colonel plain. The following is quoted in part from the explanatory note described to the monument: The Hirose lieutenant colonel carried out daring attempt three times for closing of the Ryojun harbor, and met a heroic death in action. He was killed in war, shouting " Where is Sugino and Sugino---"in quest of the figure of Sugino soldier sergeant whowas his subordinate. This state was raised for the textbook of prewar days as a paragon [or perfect model] of military man . The heart which loved people as man and loved the subordinate is the most important at the present peaceful time. 5 At the morning fair, vegetables or pickles which individual farmhouse grew or processed are sold directly. They will be worth buying. I bought four bags of pickles of beet (or red radish) and one bag of pickles of a Japanese ginger. 6 Festival of Hida distric delicacies This festival was held along Honcho street in front of Jinya. Toyama city and Uozu city both in Toyama prefecture (adjacent pref. of Gifu. pref.) were also doing sightseeing PR. Miss Toyama and Miss Uozu were also participating in this PR activity. 7 Parking lot of Takayama Float (stage for dancing) Hall adjacent to Sakurayama Hachimangu shrine There is an exclusive parking lot about 300 m north of this Float Hall. But, to use the parking lot, you must book. The exclusive parking lot which exists at hand is charged regardless of paying the entrance ticket fee into the hall. This shrine has been founded in the year of about 377. Worship of Hachiman deity [see * below] became popular all over countries around the 8th century. It is said that flowers of several hundred cherry trees bloomed in the precincts of the shrine at that time. At certain time of coexistence of Shinto-and-Buddhist-deities, Betto (or a person presiding over all the business of temple) was in Hachimanyama-Choukyuuji temple. However, the Sakurayama Hachimangu shrine has left this temple due to separation of Shinto-and-Buddhist-deities which was regulated by the government in Meiji era (1868 - 1912). This shrine has built Takayama stall hall, only institution which always exhibits stalls of Takayama Festival in the year of 1968.. * Worship of Hachiman deity Hachiman deity was an local deity of agriculture originally, but gradually changed to the deity of war. 8 Hida Takayama Museum of Art Special exhibition for the glass work by Mr. Emile Galle using a technique of "pate de verre" has been hold. [See Scenery No.12] I am interested in "pate de verre" next to pottery and porcelain, but have not seen them there because I saw similar glass work at Kitazawa Museum of Art. |
